Kaieteur Falls

Located in central Guyana in Potaro-Siparuni region, Kaieteur Falls is the world’s largest single drop waterfalls. It is located in the Kaieteur National Park. The waterfalls alone is 741 feet. It then flows over a series of steep cascades that, when included in the measurements, bring the total height to 822 ft.

Kaieteur Falls’ amazing characteristic is it’s combination of height and high-volume of water. Due to the volume of water – averaging 663 cubic meters per second, it is considered as one of the most powerful waterfalls in the world.

Niagara Falls, The Most Powerful Waterfall in North America

Located in the borders of Canada and US, in the province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York, the Niagara falls is a group of waterfalls in the Niagara River. This massive waterfalls lies between the twin cities of Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Niagara Falls, New York.

Niagara Falls comprises of three separate waterfalls: the Horseshoe Falls in the Canadian side and the American Falls, and the smaller Bridal Veil Falls, both in the US side.

The two major sections, the Horseshoe Falls and the American Falls, are separated by Goat Island while the Bridal Veil Falls is separated from the American Falls by the Luna Island. The Horseshoe Falls drop about 173 feet and 2,600 feet wide.

On the other hand, the American Falls varies between 70-100 feet in height because of the presence of giant boulders at its base and 1,060 feet wide.

Though not exceptionally high, the Niagara Falls is very wide. So wide the more than six million cubic feet of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow, and almost 4 million cubic feet on average. This amount of water flow makes the Niagara Falls the most powerful waterfall in North America.

The Angel Falls is the world’s highest waterfall at 979 meters and also the world’s highest single drop at 807 meters. It is located in the Canaima National Park, in the Gran Sabana region of Bolivar State, Venezuela.

Angel falls is so high that the water falling from it turns into mist before hitting the ground because of strong winds. It was discovered by American aviator James “Jimmie” Crawford Angel who flew over the falls on November 16 1933 while searching for a valuable ore bed.

Victoria Falls, World’s Largest Waterfall

Victoria falls is considered the largest waterfall in the world. It is located in the Zambezi River between Zambia and Zimbabwe in Southern Africa. It is also called Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means “The Smoke that Thunders”. It measures 1 mile in width and 360 feet in height, forming the largest sheet of falling water in the world. The vicinity of the waterfall has the most diverse wildlife in any major waterfalls.
